40,000 sects or more Atheist Hyperbole?

Atheists are fond of claiming that Christianity is confusing and hosts up to 40,000 sects or denominations. They follow up with this question: Which sect is right and how can we trust any of them?

Atheists are no less prone than anyone else to accept something they read over the internet as truth without checking out the validity of the claim. Here is a link that explains the source of the "40,000 Sects" and how that survey inflates the actual of number of denominations:

Although there are still quite a few denominations, most of them withing the groups are almost indetical in their beliefs and doctrine. Village Atheism wants you to think they're all entirely different and settling on one is an exercise in futility.

The real exercise in futility is trying to speak common sense to a Village Atheist.
