Brian Sapient: Atheist Lunkhead

I happened across this YouTube video of Brian Sapient being publicly interviewed by Todd Friel:

http://www.thereignofchrist.com/index.php?option=com_seyret&task=videodirectlink&id=35

Sapient has proven once more that he is not an original thinker, by parroting a hackneyed liberal Democrat talking point about how women are dying because they're being denied abortions, thanks to all those nasty, narrow-minded Christians. And then Sapient supports his ASSUMPTION by telling the YouTube viewers to Google his claim, and see for themselves the names of all the women who died because they were denied abortions.

So I Googled it. Guess what I got? A huge list of names?

Bzzzzzzztttt..... Wrong answer. I got 2 whopping references to women dying from being denied abortions. 1 page was from N.O.W. (National Organization of Women), and 1 page from the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF). I'll link them here:

http://www.now.org/issues/abortion/120904women-who-died.html

http://ffrf.org/books/AIAB/?t=chapter9

So, do ya think that NOW and FFRF have a political interest in promoting Urban Legends about abortion?

Only the N.O.W. page has names or numbers: a total of 7 (although the N.O.W. page mentions "countless" women who died because they didn't have access to safe or legal abortions).

The FFRF web page refers to 32 women who died in Wisconsin over a period of 2 years (1969-1971), and mentions no names.

Now let's look at the scarce information we Googled.

The intellectually dishonest N.O.W. page lists 7 women who died, not from being DENIED abortions, but from having ILLEGAL abortions performed by AMATEURS. These women, for whatever reason, chose to terminate their pregnancies on their own (some of the methods described were quite hideous), and they died as a result of injuries that were caused by these botched amateur procedures!

The FFRF page is more of an indictment of a poorly-run medical system in Wisconsin. The examples used were of women who died from medical complications associated with their pregnancies, all of which were avoidable, had their physicians managed their particular problems correctly. I don't see how anybody could make such a harsh judgement against restrictions on abortion with an article that didn't discuss the case histories of these women in any great detail.

That's all I got by 'Googling', Mr. Sapient. And by spewing such a broad, assumptive statement without checking your facts, you have proven yourself once more to be nothing but a mantra-spouting liberal buffoon... on YouTube, nonetheless!

If Brian Sapient can't get his facts straight on a simple subject like abortion, why would anybody be dumb enough to trust this guy to know what what he's talking about when he's dealing with the existence of the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE?

Even worse, while Friel pressed Sapient on his abortion fallacy, Sapient kept trying to go back to his original rant about how people were talking smack about him, and then flustered, he called Todd Friel a liar and a fraud... that was hilarious.

As far as "liar" and "fraud" are concerned, Sapient is the classic case of "it takes one to know one".

LIAR: Brian Sapient making spurious claims about abortion.

FRAUD: Brian Sapient claiming his views are supported by simply "Googling".

That YouTube video is a classic, showing Sapient, the proud Captain of the Atheist Mod Squad, as the knuckleheaded mouthpiece for militant atheism.

More Deep Thoughts On Religion

Here's another deeply thought-out analysis of religion by that tower of intellect, Pedro Timoteo of "Way Of The Mind" dot org (uggg). It is excerpted by me. The whole "thought" is on Mr. Timoteo's website.

Moderates and Extremists
Published by Pedro Timóteo2 weeks ago in islam, christianity, fanaticism and religion. 5 Comments

...Consider the three Abrahamic religions. What do they have in common?

First, they tell you how the universe / world began, using a story that was clearly the best thing that some primitive desert nomads or shepherds could come up with.

Unfortunately, Mr. Timoteo once again displays his ignorance of the history of religion here. The histories of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam were more than just the musings of "primitive desert nomads". For example, historians like Will Durant believed that the ancient Palestinians weren't sophisticated enough to just conjure up such complicated persons as Moses or Jesus Christ. On top of that, most of Islam was written by philosophers who lived after Mohammed.

Most “sophisticated” believers, these days, don’t take those stories literally, and accept evolution, an old earth, heliocentrism, a huge universe, a round earth, and so on. Only American fundies and Muslims seem to take those stories literally, no matter the opposing evidence; they probably believe their god put that evidence there as “a test of their faith”.

The other misfortune here is that Mr. Timoteo continues to believe that fundamentalist Christians and Muslims think that the earth is both flat and at the center of the Universe, and that the Universe is only our solar system, even when the Bible or the Koran don't make these claims. I find it hard to believe that an atheist, who considers himself intellectually superior to religious folks, continues to support and believe this kind of utter nonsense about Christians, Jews, and Muslims.

Then, the religions give believers some rules:

1- the first kind are rules that, while not terribly original, are, in general, a good idea. Don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t kill someone just because you feel like it, and so on.

Perhaps Mr. Timoteo would like to enlighten us with some "original" rules, and tell us how they originated. ALL religions have guidelines for living your life properly. Big deal. Atheism has implied "rules" as well.

2- then come the laws that can be annoying to follow, but it’s not the end of the world. Don’t eat that type of food, don’t wear this, wear that, do this on that day of the year, and so on. As I said, these can be annoying (for instance, what if you’re forbidden to eat your favorite food?), but most believers can live with them and obey them.

Annoying to whom? People brought up in particular religions and cultures are usually not "annoyed" by that religious or cultural upbringing.

3- finally, there are the “harder” rules. Kill people who do this. Kill people who do that. Stone to death those who don’t do this. Or those who do that on a particular day of the week. Fight tooth and nail against the “enemies of God / the faith”. In fact, giving your life for that is the greatest thing you can do, and with the greatest reward.

Notice how people like Pedro Timoteo focus their anti-religious prejudice to such a degree that they wind up horribly distorting the religions they're bashing? He goes right in and accuses religion of making it a prerogative to kill people, as if those are hard, fast rules believers must follow to be true to their religion. The fact is, Timoteo and others like him know NOTHING about religion except for what they read on other atheist websites.

Now, it should be obvious that a “moderate”, as usually described, is someone who follows just 1 and 2, while an “extremist” follows 3 as well.

The only thing that's obvious here is Pedro Timoteo's incredible ignorance and intellectual dishonesty. In the liberal atheist worldview, a "moderate" believer is one whose religious practices aren't considered offensive, and the "extremist" is the one whose religious practices ARE considered offensive. That's it.

In the Judeo-Christian worldview, neither the moderate nor the extremist are true followers of the faith. The moderate only follows the "rules" that he or she finds acceptable to his or her lifestyle, and the extremist distorts the faith to fit his or her personal tastes.

But… how can the latter be called an “extremist”? Doesn’t the term imply that he is distorting his religion, or using it as an excuse for something unrelated, or adding something to it? To me, it does. But that’s not the case at all…

Actually, Timoteo had it right, and then he changed his answer.

… it’s the moderates who are distorting religion, by removing things from it! Either because they don’t want to end up in prison or dead, or because their morality has evolved beyond those of the holy books’ writers, and so they recognize the immorality of those parts of their religion, but are nonetheless incapable of applying that judgment to the rest.

BUNK. Moderates don't follow all the "rules" because they themselves are guilty of being hypocritical in their own lifestyle. It has nothing to do with a distaste for extremism.

Are Bin Laden, or the 9/11 hijackers, or American abortion clinic bombers, “extremists”? Not at all, in my opinion — unless you call call a man who pays his taxes in full “an extremist taxpayer”.

Another one of Timoteo's idotic apples-to-oranges comparisons. I'd like to find out where in the Bible people are commanded to blow up abortion clinics, or where in the Koran people are commanded to kill Westerners. In fact, the Koran has rules against killing Christians because Muslims consider Jesus a prophet.

They’re simply not ignoring the unpleasant parts of their faith. They’re the only devout believers out there.

Which really paints a nice picture of their religions…

Actually, Pedro Timoteo's opinions paints a nice picture of the insipid nature of the typical liberal atheist.

Atheist Alarmism: Knucklehead Alert

From the Atheist Revolution blog:

Christian Extremists To Invade Public Schools

Oh no! Not Christian extremists!

Why is it that anybody who's not a Left-Winger or an atheist is always referred to as an "extremist"? Why do the Left Wingnuts and the atheists, who make up a minority demographic, labor under the delusion that they somehow represent Mainstream America?

"Our nation's children are in danger. A combination of Christian extremism and government officials afraid to enforce the rule of law threatens their education. This in turn jeopardizes America's future ability to compete in a global economy."

By what stretch of the imagination does this atheist alarmist think that religious belief will somehow affect "America's future ability to compete in a global economy"? Does this guy really believe this bunk? Unfortunately, I'm sure he does. Even worse: he has no facts or figures to back up his lame accusation, AS PER USUAL with the typical, Christian-baiting, liberal atheist.

The greatest threat to our ability to compete in a global economy is the dumbing down of our public schools. Kids that graduate from high school unable to read at their own grade level are going to have one whale of a time trying to compete in a global economy more than some kid who believes in God.

Ironically, home-schooled Christian kids are smacking down the undereducated Publik Skewl school students in many localities with their basic academic skills, so much so that even atheists are starting to home-school their kids.

I realize that this is probably not anything new for my regular readers, but even you may be surprised by the latest assault on our public schools.

And this panic-filled, paranoid rant is an assault on Average Joe's intelligence.

Proclaiming "a revival of faith and grace" at America's public schools, Christian extremist groups are organizing three nationwide efforts to force their ridiculous religion into our schools. In a press release issued by the Scriptures in Schools Project and publicized by Christian Newswire, we can learn about the following events planned for September 23-29:
"
See You At The Pole" 9/26
"
Scriptures in Schools Week" 9/23-9/29
"
Adopt-A-School-for-Christ" Campus Challenge 9/23The organizers expect that, "Millions of Christian students, along with teachers/staff, parents, and clergy, will participate at Public Schools across America."Bob Pawson of the Scriptures in Schools Project and a public school teacher in New Jersey calls on our children to "Bring your Bibles to school: Tote 'em and quote 'em and use 'em in class."

Sound the alarms! Students are once more going to be allowed to enjoy their Constitutionally protected rights of freedom of worship on a public school campus! Danger, Will Robinson! Christian "extremists" are going to destroy our kids' minds and ruin America's ability to compete in a global economy!

Is there nothing more comical than a liberal alarmist?

Atheist Blowhard: Mr. Comedy Jesus

This is a transcription, with commentary by me, of the YouTube video by Troy Conrad, the atheist brainiac who makes his living as Comedy Jesus, and hosts the religionisretarded website. His “Bible Warning Label” video is just another tired recitation of atheist mantras sprinkled with leftist political diatribe. Mr. Conrad is a real “original thinker”, as you can see here:

Warning!

The contents of this book are ancient metaphors and not to be taken literally.

Yep, all the places and people named in the Bible are purely metaphoric, even though many of the places exist today, and there is plenty of evidence to corroborate the existence of the people.

If taken literally call science or basic literature class immediately.

Taking literally may cause:

Bigotry

Even though the Bible teaches that God has no personal preference over anyone, but instead judges people by their actions (John 3:16).

But anti-Christian bigotry, as exemplified by a Jesus impersonator, is A-O-K.

Sexual Guilt

Heaven forbid we should feel guilty about being a society of horndogs and perverts.

Shirt overtucking

After all, only dumb Christofascists, who like being successful in business, tuck in their shirts.

Fighting them there

Fighting them here

Calling people “them”

And atheists don’t fight with anyone, right? Here we go with another idiotic anti-Bush rant.

Desire to lower the status of women by calling them witches

The Left-Wing Entertainment Industry’s politically correct way to lower the status of a woman is to call her a “ho”.

Burning witches

Let’s bash all modern Christianity for a handful of isolated incidents committed 400 years ago. Wait a minute… witches are just another bunch of stupid people with supernatural beliefs. Why should atheists care what happens to them?

Xenophobia

If Christians are racists, then why are some of the biggest church congregations African-American or Asian?

Homophobia mixed with suppressed gayness

Ahh, the old, tired Left-Wing tactic of attacking Christians for their views on gays by using homosexuality as a slur against them. Only a die-hard liberal insists on using this hackneyed, oxymoronic insult, as it is a hallmark of their pretzel logic.

Guilt about gayness

I actually agree with this one… the Bible SHOULD cause guilt about an aberrational lifestyle that kills people long before their time.

Conformity

As opposed to ‘nonconformity’, exemplified by wearing a bedsheet and uttering blasphemy?

Taking it even more literally may lead to:

Mass murder

Genocide

Sure, all Biblical literalists are serial killers, aren’t they?

Suicide

And it appears that Biblical literalists are also suicidal maniacs, according to Mr. Wizard here.

Belief that God is on your side

He is. Thanks for noticing.

The belief that the band that plays at your church rocks.

It does rock. Thanks for noticing. Most of the guys in our church band are professional studio players, Monday through Friday.

Which may lead to:

Self-deception

Atheism IS the epitome of self-deception. It starts with the belief that all atheists are naturally smarter than believers, and it goes downhill from there.

Which may lead to:

The belief that obedience is helpful in adult life, and will get you into Supermagicland when you die.

Supermagicland? Never heard of it. What Bible translation is that found in?

Which may lead to:

Extreme faith-based happiness, even in the face of real world problems that are going on right now, and require you not to be overly coked-up on belief while the world burns, thinking that Jesus will step in and save you at the last minute.

Oh, I’m sorry, but according to liberals NOBODY is allowed to be happy as long as the world isn’t perfect. We’re all supposed to be miserable knowing that there is death and sorrow and war somewhere.

Guess what? There ARE lots of believers out there who AREN’T happy that there’s death, sorrow, and war, and they ARE out there, praying, and then acting on their prayers. Liberals like this dumb Jesus impersonator have trouble seeing this because of their political blinders.

Well, smell the smell, Buster J. Sticksmacker, if you drop the fairytale b******* and pick up a hammer and build something for the next generation, because guess what—the roaches under your sink can’t wait for you to f*** this all up so they can run things for a while and have your Ipod.

Ever heard of the SALVATION ARMY, WORLD VISION INTERNATIONAL, FEED THE CHILDREN, AND COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL, Mr. Comedy Jesus? On top of that, missionary groups all over planet earth are picking up hammers and building for the next generation. They’re also digging wells in drought-ridden Africa, running schools in 3rd world countries to teach children to read, and risking their lives in AIDS treatment centers.

In the meantime, Mr. Comedy Jesus, what are YOU doing to make our world a better place? Showing up in your phony Jesus outfit that you bought from the Costume Barn, and asking people to support your silly shtick with their hard-earned bucks? I guess it’s easy work if you can find it.

I think Mr. Comedy Jesus ought to put his money where his big mouth is, and pick up a hammer at a Habitat for Humanity house-raising. Be sure to show up in your bedsheet, wig, and phony beard, Mr. Comedy Jesus, and wear it the whole time you work on the house. Maybe if you’re lucky you’ll get an autograph from President Carter, just to make your day, in case helping the poor with your labor isn’t enough. Be sure to post the videos on YouTube.

In the meantime, would you care to demonstrate how a cockroach operates an I-pod?

How About Some Cheese With That Whine?

Here’s a blog entry I borrowed from the “God Is For Suckers”blog. It’s a melodramatic complaint by an atheist who had to suffer the horrors of being treated for some serious medical problems in a Catholic-run hospital. It’s been excerpted by me because most of her rant is repetitive and boring. My points are in bold type.

“I’m an atheist, so BACK OFF!”
By Stardust

I promised you some stories from my two-week-long incarceration in a lunatic asylum (catholic hospital).

I think I hear violins playing.

The physical pain and illness I was feeling was nothing in comparison to having to hear the various roommates of mine that came and went having communion every f****** day and cry in their beds for hours afterwards. The god representatives and religious visits did absolutely no good for them at all, and actually made them WORSE.

…Droned out the mumbo-jumbo incantations to the great sky daddy, the sad and sorrowful prayer for the sick and by the time it was over she had to tell her friend she was in dire pain, had to go and was calling for morphine and for the nurse to come comfort her…The god incantations seemed to do much more harm than good.

CONTRADICTION ALERT: I thought all atheists believed prayer was useless and ineffective, so how could prayer make the patients’ conditions worse?

…I lay there in pain while Drs. Larry, Moe, Curly, Shemp, and Joe tried to figure out where to start with me since I had a variety of problems. Pulmonary edema, irregular heartbeat, biliary dyskenesia of the gallbladder, ulcers.

Well, surprisingly enough, the 4 Stooges were actually able to diagnose her quite accurately, and it looks like she was quite a mess! You think she might have had a sliver of gratitude that they were able to do so? Fat Chance!

…I needed surgery, but they needed to get other things figured out so they would not be responsible for killing me on the operating table.

Imagine that! Christian doctors wanting to help her survive. Who’d a thunk it?

But like I said, those problems were just a puzzle that doctors needed to use science and their education to figure out and fix.

Another pearl of wisdom from Captain Obvious.

I had told them in the ER when I was admitted that I HAD NO GOD BELIEFS and to leave me be about it. No sooner I was in my room, before seeing a nurse or a doctor, a chaplain came waltzing in asking about my “spirituality”. I said I was an atheist, I had no god beliefs and she said she would leave some tracts by my bedside and I said “NO THANK YOU, TAKE THEM AWAY”. I explained I did not believe in god and didn’t want to be bothered with it. Does she respect that and respect that I am in great pain and sick? Of course not.

And did “Stardust” respect that her God-believing room mates were in great pain and sick? Of course not.

I had an aunt who never, ever calls me at any other time except when I have been in the hospital called me once again to tell me “god is with me”. I told her if that was true to tell the sick, sadistic bastard to BACK OFF!
I couldn’t understand why my own sister, who means well, but thought we had an agreement not to bring up religion left a text message on my phone the day of surgery, “I am at work praying 4 u”. My husband had my phone so I didn’t see it till a couple days later. But he sent a message back to her after surgery that said “surgery done, she’s in recovery. The Flying Spaghetti Monster was with her”.

This is the kind of magnanimity you can expect from atheists when their believing family members try to show concern. The “maturity” of atheists never ceases to amaze me.

“I am usually a very nice person, and try not to be mean to people…”

Oh yeah, this woman’s rant sure has made a believer out of me! She’s a real sweetheart.

…however, the pain and the added god botherer aggravation turned me into a very militant atheist.

BUNK ALERT: She was a militant atheist when she showed up in the Emergency Room.

I was taken down for a test one day and left on a gurney to wait in a holding area. There was an older woman there waiting for her husband to have a test done. She said to me “so what’s your problem?” I said, “I don’t feel like talking.” She said, “did you have surgery?” I told her “I don’t talk to strangers about my business, please leave me alone.” She said, “My husband had a blah, blah blah, and I had a stroke back in January, and I have arthritis and blah, blah, blah, waa, waa, waa….” I interrupted and told her that I was sorry to hear that but I really didn’t want to hear it. She then got close to me and said “trust in the Lord, he is there for you” and I said “I AM AN ATHEIST, THERE IS NO GOD” and she backed up as if I had spit fire at her. LOL! It was great.

There you have it, Ladies and gentlemen. Atheist “compassion” in all its glory. A little old lady wanted to talk for a minute, and this “compassionate” atheist didn’t want to give her the time of day. Yet she exulted in insulting this old woman. I guess Stardust’s “pain and suffering” didn’t keep her from showing this poor old lady the nasty truth about atheism, did it?

There was an incident even worse than the frustrating god representatives and godly roommates… all of a sudden a shriek came from another room “ALLAH AKBAR! durkadurkadurkaalalalalalalala and a bunch of chanting in what sounded like Arabic… I was delirious with pain med and pain itself so everything was quite surreal….Turns out what happened was that an old muslim man had died and I guess it is normal tradition to bellow to their sky daddy like Klingons when a loved one dies. Holy f***, that sounded like they were screaming out war cries of the start of some kind of violence! It would not be allowed if it were not for “religious tolerance”.

“Religious tolerance” must sound dirty to hard-core atheists, despite their self-professed phoney-baloney image of open-mindedness.

I should have done this sooner, but I looked up the “Mission Statement” of that hospital and of several hospitals in our area and all are affiliated with some kind of mythology cult…As atheists, I suggest that before an illness strikes, check out the hospitals in your area and find one that you can be comfortable in because when it’s really religious it causes more stress, uncomfortableness and frustration.

Forget about whether the specialists for certain medical conditions might be believers… your personal “comfort” is far more important than choosing the most qualified doctor.

It’s sad that these delusional patients who were my roommates could not see that talking with their friends made them feel better. Watching television made them feel better and took their minds off their problems…Watching a sitcom did far more for me than communion did for the god believers. Religion made them SICKER and more full of self-pity. But it seems like many of them like and even thrive on that masochistic part of xianity.

That’s hilarious, because Stardust’s complaint-filled rant is dripping with self-pity. And her atheism made her difficult to deal with as well.

Stardust showed up at that Catholic hospital in bad shape, and their skilled personnel not only took care of her serious medical problems, but they put up with her griping, complaints, and insults like the true professionals they were. It’s really, really sad to see that Stardust doesn’t show a dime’s worth of gratitude for all their hard work and skill. She doesn’t give a tinker’s damn about all that hospital did for her, in spite of her nasty, ungrateful attitude towards the healthcare professionals she came into contact with. That’s what it’s truly like to be a militant atheist: intolerant, impatient, and uncaring, even in extraordinary circumstances.

Makes you want to run out and join the atheist crowd, doesn’t it?

Cirque Du Stupide: The "Rational" Response Squad

If you thought American Atheists is a nutty militant atheist organization, just check out the Rational Response Squad.

Their Rational Responders site is hilarious. Led by Brian J. Sapient (a.k.a. Brian Cutler), these "rational" responders have made them themselves the Atheism Police, complete with silly mock cop badge logos (I can just picture some raggae band playing "bad theist, bad theist, whatcha gonna do" in the background).

And, while these people are boldly pronouncing their little "atheist jihad" against Christianity (which they have "proven" to be a mental disorder), they are constantly soliciting the reader for funds! So, while militant atheists love to bash Christian ministries for soliciting donations, these guys prove once more that atheists are nothing more than the "Pot that calls the Kettle black" as they use every opportunity to ask for donations in order to support their noble cause.

The latest activity of the RRS is their production of anti-Christian videos on YouTube, which, more than anything else, are designed to attract viewers to the RRS website, where they can beg the readers for money. One of their videos features somebody dressed up in a mock Jesus costume, stumbling around while drinking a beer. Real rational, right?

A quick tour of their Rational Responders website reveals all the IRRATIONALITY, nuttiness, intellectual dishonesty, profanity, and nasty comments from subscribers that you'll find on any other atheist nutter site, like God is For Suckers or the No God Blog. But what makes RRS special is the purely comical self-parody they've made of themselves with their phony police image. The seriousness with which RRS takes themselves is proof of just how dumb they really are.

I'm not posting links to their site, because RRS doesn't deserve even this much publicity. They also love to make threats, and some of their subscribers are actually stupid enough to support their litigation escapades. But I will fish them out from time to time for stupid commentary, as this site is loaded with the kind of banal knuckleheaded spew that makes militant atheism such a joke. The only reason I even bother with people like this is because they've made themselves highly visible, and they do succeed in fooling the ignorant with their misinformation.

So the Rational Response Squad had made my list as the new lead act in the Cirque Du Stupide. They will provide endless chuckles for me in the future, until they have the good sense to diappear. But then, good sense doesn't figure into the militant atheist mindset.

Are Atheists More 'Compassionate"?

Here’s a neat little tidbit from the American Atheists website, in a section labeled Coming Out – Atheism: the Other Closet. It deals with telling your relatives and friends that you’re an atheist, as if revealing it is tantamount to admitting you’re gay.

Be Compassionate. Yes, YOU be compassionate to THEM. Understand that the people you tell love you, and actually believe in God and their preachers' teachings. They are victims - just as you are - of the lies and falsehoods told by religious organizations, the only difference being they actually may believe those lies. They may express their emotions as anger, but a little education and steadfastness mixed with understanding may allow them to get over that hump quickly.”

Gee, I thought all atheists were naturally more compassionate than us bigoted, narrow-minded Christians. I thought all atheists had a superior built-in code of morals. And here we have American Atheists INSTRUCTING the person "coming out" to be compassionate?

I’d like to point out a few fine examples of “compassion” towards religious believers as demonstrated by American Atheists, beginning with another excerpt from the “Coming Out” section:

“Mention bad religious people. Remember that Hitler was a Catholic, and that Jeffrey Dahmer said grace before he ate his victims. Mention also that one need only open a newspaper to find yet another story about allegations against priests for sexual misconduct, often with children. Don't forget our good friends Jim Bakker (who swindled millions from his flock) and Jimmy Swaggart (asked for forgiveness only after being caught using prostitutes).”

Yup, show your compassion by associating all Christians with a handful of criminals who “claimed” to be Christians. Also be sure to neglect mentioning people like the Communist leaders who renounced religion, singled out the Church for persecution, and killed millions in the process of building their empires. When someone asks you, just tell them Pol Pot wasn’t a “real” atheist.

Here’s another one for you, right from the American Atheists’ Greeting Cards section: The Skiing Jesus Solstice Card.

https://lightning.he.net/~atheists/catalogue/shop/prod2027.php

That’s right, show your compassion for those poor, misguided Christians by ridiculing their most important religious figure on one of their most sacred holidays. That’ll score some points for atheism!

Here’s an excerpt from the American Atheists website which deals with the Bible:

“The Bible story of Jesus is a contradictory and confusing account. The Bible shows that this Jesus fellow spoke and taught many absurd and foolish things, and often believed he was having a conversation with devils. If one will read the entire Bible, one will find tales of ignorance, murder, sexual perversions, mass insanity, idiotic laws, and even cannibalism and human sacrifice. It staggers the imagination how anyone in his right mind could read the Bible and believe that it was written by a wise, just, and loving god. Christians have found biblical scriptures telling them to burn people at the stake, to justify slavery, to oppress and persecute others, and to kill and commit war in the name of their god. Unfortunately, there are some even today who would have us return to the teachings and laws found in the Bible.”

Another great way to show your compassion for Christians: bash the Bible, their most sacred Book, based on a spurious understanding of the Book’s contents. It works as long as the people you’re dealing with are dumber than you.

Here’s another quote I found on the American Atheists website, from the page called “Race and Religion”:

"We are white Christian soldiers standing against crime, evil, and corruption ... Our king and leader is God Almighty, and our doctrine is the Holy Bible. God is on our side."

White Patriot Party leaderGlenn Miller [Raleigh, NC, 1986]

Want to show your compassion for your Christian friend? There’s no better way than to call all Judeo-Christians a bunch of racists. Just like the section on “bad” religious people, take advantage of the “guilt by association” argument here as well. It works great on the ignorant.

You what I'm getting at here? Atheist "compassion" and 2 bucks will get you a small coffee at Starbuck's.

You gotta love those militant Atheists, the most self-contradictory bunch of flim-flam artists on the planet.

Atheist In A Tinfoil Helmet

Another Real Atheist of Genius posts crackpot conspiracies on Craigslist:

Actually the Roman Piso family wrote the new testament and invented "Jesus:" http://www.konformist.com/blasphemy/piso.htm

This hilarious story has been floating around for years and years. Supposedly, Calpurnius Piso, son of Roman General Arrius Calpurnius Piso, wrote the New Testament and invented Jesus. There’s only one problem, however: Arrius Calpurnius Piso never existed, so it’s a sure bet his son Calpurnius didn’t, either. The whole story is a forgery.

Here’s the real dirt behind this ridiculous Urban Legend:

http://www.tektonics.org/lp/pisocake.html

It's all about Roman authority, which morphed into the Vatican and the Knights of Malta. When the pope kisses the ground, it's not to express gratitude, but his ownership. His country controls all central banks worldwide, except Iran and North Korea. Fractional-reserve banking allows him to amplify his financial maneuvers 100-fold. His minions can call loans at any time and destroy a nation's economy with a phone call.”

I’m sure the stockholders and the boards of all these banks would be very interested in hearing about how the Pope calls all the shots. Needless to say, this inane idea needs no exhaustive examination. Its silliness stands on its own lack of merit.

”All reality is dualistic, as any lawyer or particle physicist will prove.”

Boy, now I can rest assured that a lawyer can define the dualism of reality, just the same way they defined what is “science” in lawsuits against the ID crowd. And you have to love the psychobabble about particle physics.

“Christianity keeps people stupid by drawing a line down the center of worldly dualities, and proclaiming one side evil while the other side is declared ‘good’.”

Another journey down the road of numbskull logic and relativistic twaddle. Does this guy think that there are no standards of good and evil, even to the hard-core atheist?

“Nazi Pope uses politicians to built polarity [Jesuit priests promulgate Republican-vs-Democrat and the Civil War, for example] and thus keep people unbalanced and off-center, and thus more easily controlled.”

I bet President Lincoln is rolling over in the grave at the discovery that the JESUITS were behind the Civil War… NOT! And when are these loons going to off that old tired “Pope is a Nazi” kick? Does this knucklehead think all Germans walk around yelling “Sieg Heil!” and clicking their heels?

The sad fact is, this guy, who posted this lunacy, would have you think we Christians are the unbalanced wackos here.

I have only one question for this Craigslist Real Man of Genius:

What size tinfoil hat do you prefer?

Atheist Snake Oil

Here's an article by attorney and atheist activist Edwin Kagin, right from his website:

KAGIN’S COLUMN ON THE GOSPEL OF THADDAEUS

"But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain."
Saul of Tarsus, a.k.a., The Apostle Paul

For the protection of persons yet living, the circumstances of the discovery and translation of the following cannot now be revealed. The authenticity of this document, and its accurate rendering into English from first century common era Greek, is assured. It is presented now, and with some urgency, for fear that it might otherwise be lost through the efforts of persons who are aggressively attempting to suppress forever any evidence of its existence. The very zeal of those who seek to prevent this work from becoming known, when considered together with the tone and content of the writing itself, indicates this is something far different, and perhaps more reliable, than the pseudepigraphical writings of the Canon pronounced holy at Nicaea. [EFK]

The article is linked here: http://www.edwinkagin.com/columns/thaddeus.htm

You gotta love the dramatic introduction about "protecting living persons" (lawyer talk for 'I don't want to be sued') and guaranteeing that the document he posted was accurately translated from 1st Century Greek. That seals the deal right there!

Now, let's take a look at one line in Kagin's explosive document:

"It was said that Mary Magdalene wanted only two mites and a mattress and the wit to fall backwards."

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! FORGERY ALERT!

There is no historical data that proves Mary Magdalene was in fact a prostitute. That traditional story about her was started by the early Church around the time of Pope Gregory, circa AD 600.

I don't need to go into an exhaustive expose on Mr. Kagin's article, because the mistake about Mary Magdalene is one commonly made by forgers of 1st Century documents.

Needless to say, Edwin Kagin's article On the Gospel of Thaddeus is pure BUNK. That line about Mary Magdalene is the electric fan that blew away this house of cards.

By the way, here's another link that deals with the origin of the "Gospel of Thaddeus":

http://www.paulburgess.org/thaddeus.html

That's right. The Gospel of Thaddeus is a fake. In fact, it's not even a "lost" gospel, like the Gnostic gospels. The Gospel of Thaddeus was created by a biblical studies professor as a learning exercise for his students. Fakes abound for the ignorant to enjoy.

Edwin Kagin, outspoken atheist, and author of books against Christianity, ought to be ashamed of the absolutely SLOPPY attempt he made to deceive people with his medicine show. If he can't be bothered to verify the truthfulness of one silly little forged document, I can only imagine how much drivel he packs into his books. Move over, Earl Doherty.

It appears that, in keeping his source secret, Mr. Kagin is only protecting that source from being laughed off the planet. Certainly Mr. Kagin deserves the same.

Mr. Kagin's "document" ends like this:

"May that measure of peace, justice, harmony and understanding denied religion and its deities be attained by mortals through the use of their minds, and may reason, science, curiosity, and discovery replace the fear, the guilt, the pain, and the ignorance of trembling in terror before capricious gods. Ecce homo."

That's a pretty interesting comment made by a practicing Jew from Galilee, don't you think? This ending line only reinforces the real purpose behind the forgery.

Shame on Mr. Kagin. As a lawyer, he should know the value of doing your due diligence, especially when presenting something as "truth".

I believe that Mr. Kagin, caught here with his pants down, is a fine upstanding member of American Atheists. And since good old O'Hair Inc. NEVER bothers to check FACTS on anything Biblical, a rotten scholar like Edwin Kagin is quite welcome in their midst.

Atheists Make "Convincing Arguements" Against Christianity

Here's an interpretive sampling of what typical atheists post on the Inter-Web:

"Richard Dawkins says God doesn't exist, and that's good enough for me. He's never been wrong about anything."

Atheists are smarter and more mature than you dum-dum, stupid-head Christians, so nerny nerny boo boo on you!

Atheists love their lives more than you Christians, so why don't you all just roll over and croak.

Atheists are far more compassionate, understanding, and tolerant than you bigoted, hateful, self-righteous Christian jerks.

Atheists could run this world far better, so why don't you Christians just go away, and take the Salvation Army, Christian Children's Fund, and all those Skid Row rescue missions with you.

The Bible is nothing but mythology and mentions imaginary persons like Tiberius Caesar.

Atheists value life more than you anti-abortion, anti-euthanasia Christofascists.

Atheism is just better than Christianity, so deal with it, you losers.

You Christians are all delusional and should be fed pills to cope with your insanity.

We've only said a gozillion times that since God won't appear as George Burns and do a soft-shoe for us, then that proves God doesn't exist.

Atheism: Good. Christianity: Bad.

The Darwinian Naturalist Theory of Evolution has proven that God doesn't exist. We still call it a "theory" because it sounds much cooler than the "Law of Evolution".

We know that all Christians are hypocrites. That proves God doesn't exist.

"I asked God to help me win the Lottery. I didn't win, so prayer doesn't work. That means God doesn't exist."

There are a million religions all trying to get God's attention. That means, since the world can't agree as one about who God is, God doesn't exist.

If God existed, He'd take His big finger and write, "Jesus Lives" in glowing neon on the surface of the Moon, in every language and dialect.

Atheists have a built-in set of superior morals, right from birth. And since we don't believe in God, those morals came from evolution, and that proves God doesn't exist.

If God existed, He wouldn't create Christians. He'd create smart atheists instead.

You Christians can't handle life, so you invented a crutch named God, instead of getting drunk like the rest of us.

Face it, you Christians just stink. Now go sit in a church somewhere.

If God gives us atheists enough empirical evidence of His existence, we'll think about whether or not He's allowed to exist.

Religious people have commited numerous crimes over the centuries, so that means God doesn't exist.

The only reason you Christians believe in God is because your abusive horrible parents brainwashed you.

If God existed, He'd create everybody with an athlete's body and an IQ of 200.

If God existed, the planets would be in perfect alignment, peace would reign all over the earth, and fluffy bunnies would be everywhere.

God doesn't think or act the way we atheists think God should, so God doesn't exist.

God hasn't shut down all the atheist websites, so that means God doesn't exist.

If God existed, He'd strike down all the atheists with lightning for committing blasphemy.

If God existed, He'd be an atheist.

If God existed, He'd favor all of us clear-thinking, reasonable atheists over you Christian whackos.

If God existed, he would have killed off Adolph Hitler, Josef Stalin, Pol Pot, Torquemada the Inquisitor, Jerry Falwell, Jim Jones, and David Koresh before they hurt anybody.

If God existed, He'd cause all deformed fetuses to be micarried.

The world isn't perfect, therefore, God doesn't exist.

If God existed, He wouldn't have created Lucifer, the fallen angel.

Nobody knows who created God, therefore, God doesn't exist.

The Universe began with a Big Bang, and that proves God doesn't exist.

Christians are too stupid to believe in science, which proves that God doesn't exist.

We atheists know God doesn't exist, so just deal with it.

Atheist Urban Legend: Hitler's "Christianity"

One of the godless crowd's favorite attacks on Christianity is the old atheist contention that Adolph Hitler was a Christian. A book of transcribed notes taken at meetings between Hitler and his staff, called "Hitler's Table talk", has been used to defend the notion that Hitler was in fact quite anti-Christian. Doubts about the reliability of the book have arisen, however, and atheists have used this to defend their position that Hitler was in fact a Christian (of the Roman Catholic faith). An atheist/humanist web article, dealing with "Hitler's Table Talk" and other quotations, both public and private, is linked here:

From the nobeliefs website:

http://nobeliefs.com/HitlerSources.htm

There is really no need to go into a point-counterpoint arguement against the article. Here's why:

First and foremost, Adolph Hitler was a maniac with delusions of grandeur. If he'd been born 40 years later, he'd be Charles Manson's room mate. Whether it's in Mein Kampf, Hitler's Table Talk, or any of the hundreds of speeches Hitler gave, you're simply reading the ravings of a lunatic who was on par with syphilitic philospher Frederick Nietzche.

Second, and even more important, we know what a "Christian" really is, because Christianity has been defined authoritatively in God's Word, the Holy Bible.

From the Book of Acts, we have the definition of the word "Christian":

"The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch." Acts 11:26

The word 'Christian' came from the Greek word christianos, taken from the Roman word and used to define an "adherent" (follower) of Christos (Jesus).

And what does the 'follower' of Jesus do? Most of it is explained quite simply in the Book of Matthew, Chapter 22, verses 37-40:

Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Jesus gave His followers one more commandment before He ascended to Heaven:

He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news (the Gospel of Jesus Christ) to all creation. " Mark 16:15

That's Christianity in a nutshell.

So, did Adolph Hitler love his neighbors as himself and preach the Good News of Jesus Christ? And why are we expected to believe Mein Kampf, which any half-wit knows was pure propaganda?

Was Hitler really a Christian simply because he claimed the title?

The answer is NO. Case closed.

Not only that, I'd like to add that NO atheist is going to define MY Christianity for me, based on some cherry-picker's knowledge of the Bible, and you shouldn't let these intellectually dishonest people get away with that kind of nonsense.

It's high time the godless crowd tried READING a Bible for a change.

'Nuff said.

Atheist Deep Thinker Gets It Wrong... Again

“Deep Thoughts” from gods4suckers.com:

This I Know To Be True
By jimmer

The book of “Inquiry” is never complete.

Another Pearl of Wisdom by Captain Obvious!

The Religious had their books completed thousands of years ago by our primitive ancestors.

Substitute “Christians” for the word “religious”. I’ll provide the intellectual honesty here since “jimmers” won’t. By the way, can we help it if our ancestors got it right the first time?

We are the voice of “Reason”, A light in the darkness.

(Violins begin playing in the background)

The Religious are the same old tired and threadbare hissing of the Insane death cults.

This brainiac, “jimmers”, has managed to do what no philosopher or scholar has even ever done: sum up all religions in one sentence. This dude needs to be selected for the atheist “Real Men of Genius” award.

Talk about your “threadbare hissing”; Google the 2 million-plus threadbare anti-Christian “hisses” that are spewed all over the inter-web sometime. I’m sure that after reading a handful of these insane rants, you’ll be convinced that most atheists learned their basic English skills from “Hooked On Obscenities”.

…In less than a generation the U.S. has been forced to live under a pall of unmistakable ignorance. We have been swindled out of our free thought universal triumphs and have been handed the latest version of the book of Deuteronomy. The Bush, Kennedy, Robertson, Falwell et. al. punch for a theocratic U.S. and it has left us nearly bankrupt of the vision that once guided this nation to be a Nation Among Nations…

And a fine example of unmistakable ignorance is this paragraph of Left-Wing Talking Point Pap, offered by a liberal-indoctrinated KID, i.e. Knucklehead In Denial. This comes straight from the geniuses at moveon.org. So much for “free, independent” thinking, Junior.

From spying on, well, everyone to torture to the elimination of the Writ of Habeus Corpus to waging war against a nation that did not attack the U.S. They have lead the U.S. and the world to the brink of an insane and winless world war that will NOT herald in a NEW age. It will herald in the end of life as we know it.

Oh no! Another doomsday prophet!

Now this guy can predict the future! What does this Real Man of Genius (I use the term “man” loosely in reference to this KID) expect would have happened if we’d just sat on our hineys after 19 nuts flew airliners into the Twin Towers?

“jimmers” has some other problems here. What makes the war “winless” (whatever that is)? Has “jimmers’ already declared the Iraq war a draw?

This is just another recitation of the hackneyed Democrat Talking Points that are boring everyone else to sleep. Okay, Junior, we know how you vote. By the way, you haven’t explained why CHRISTIANS are responsible for any of this.

I think I hear crickets chirping.

We are witnessing the best of Religious doctrine taking over in the world and what do they give us? Nothing but war and terror. They all have divided the pie and are making sure that they get their share. The current political albatross in Washington has little in common with even the most rancorous political differences of the the 1950’s. All politicians are kneeling and giving their obesiance to the religious.

What’s really sad is, this guy BELIEVES what he wrote! I can almost hear Mussorgsky’s “Night On Bald Mountain” playing as I read it.

What I know to be true. That we have put a man on the moon through Scientific principles and the religious did not.

Stupid Atheist Assumption Alert: Atheists continue to spread the Urban Myth that CHRISTIANS had no involvement whatsoever in the technological advances of the 20th Century. Pure BULL.

How can anybody with more than a half-functional brain even entertain the thought that there are no Christian engineers, doctors, or scientists? Does the average atheist still labor under the delusion that Christians are nothing but buck-toothed door-to-door Bible salesmen?

That at one time not so long ago the entire world marvelled at the achievements of a visionary U.S. A U.S. that sent it’s men to space but has also gone out of it’s way to include other nations in the line-up. A U.S. that gave and gave.

We Americans still DO give… how about the billions our Adminstration has authorized to fight AIDS in Africa, for just one example?

Was this KID raised in a home-made bomb shelter?

But through the misdirected leadership of an administration suffering from the god sickness it has abandoned it’s own people in New Orleans...

Another Completely Ridiculous And Presumptive (CRAP) statement by a Leftist Stooge. The victims of Katrina are STILL getting aid, not only from the Gub-Mint, but from the SALVATION ARMY; you know, one of those Christofascist organizations that is 2nd only to the United Nations in providing assistance to the needy.

It has cheapened the lives of people of other nations to the point where they are collateral damage or worse they aren’t worth fighting for. In spite of the numbers of dead due to genocide in Darfur, Rwanda, as well as other nations that could be helped. The U.S. has stopped helping and has gone away.

BUNK. Read the newspaper, son. Get out more. The big reason Darfur has become such a hot-button issue is because it has become popular with the Hollywood crowd. The problems in the Sudan have gone on since the late 1980’s, but no one gave a tinker’s damn except for Christians, because it is Christians who have been singled out by Marxist Muslims for genocide. Our complaints fell on deaf ears.

You want an example of something that has cheapened life? Try legalized abortion.

There is no vision except a vision of war and poverty if we continue to be led by such people. I started today wondering how we as a People had grown so far from our sense of being free. I realized that in many ways that while the U.S. was still under the leadership of real people that there was a vision that could be shared by all. Even by people who were not living here. It was the simple idea of each of us having a vision for ourselves. And it was a vision of a Nation that stood together without the fear of the unknown. It was not a vision based on what the Religious want or say. It was not a vision of the past. And it certainly was not a vision of war.

BUNK. This KID doesn’t know diddly-squat about the history of our country, nor has he bothered to read any of the personal letters or memoirs by our Founding Fathers. Religion was considered so important that it is Constitutionally protected. THAT’s what our nation’s attitude was on religion!

I end with this idea that came from the Apollo space program.

First the plaque that was left by the first people on the moon was a statement for all of mankind. That is why I consider religion to be a dismal failure in that they have divided the world and have caused more suffering than they have solved. They only care for themselves.

Another line of robotically-repeated drivel from the Lefty Atheist Hate Club. How about it if this KID provides some facts and figures about the suffering CHRISTIANITY has caused as opposed to Atheistically-Inspired Communism?

…Second here is a short account of the Apollo 11 landing.

...This flight rekindled the excitement felt in the early 1960s during the first Mercury flights, and set the stage for later Apollo landing missions. An ecstatic reaction enveloped the globe, as everyone shared in the success of the mission. Ticker tape parades, speaking engagements, public relations events, and a world tour by the astronauts served to create good will both in the United States and abroad.

The Goodwill that took 200 years to cultivate. This latest bunch of politicians have squandered while lining their own pockets and the pockets of their benefactors.

Another CRAP statement. The ”goodwill” that the United States has built up had NOTHING to do with the Apollo Missions, and EVERYTHING to do with the blood sacrifices of American men and women in World War I. World War II, Korea, Viet Nam, The Gulf War, Afghanistan, and YES, even the current Iraq War.

THAT is what has gained America its respect.

Jesus said, “There is no greater love than to lay one’s life down for another” (paraphrased).

Lefty Atheist KID’s need to learn this very CHRISTIAN concept.

Atheist "Compassion" Is Conditional

Taken from a website called The Alabama Atheist:

http://www.alabamaatheist.org/al/news/050903.htm

“While some government officials are calling for prayer and trying to focus public attention on the work done by some religious groups, America's diverse community of nonbelievers -- Atheists, Freethinkers, Humanists and others -- are joining the effort to support relief operations in New Orleans and the rest of the Gulf Coast.”

AMERICAN ATHEISTS is one such organization, and has called upon the country's Atheists to generously donate to emergency efforts. The organization is using its web site at http://www.atheists.org to list charitable groups that do not include religious preaching and proselytizing in their relief efforts.

The Salvation Army, a worldwide organization that is 2nd only to the United Nations in providing social welfare services and disaster relief, was one of the 1st responders to the Hurricane Katrina Disaster and still continues to provide vital services to new Orleans to this day:

http://www.uss.salvationarmy.org/uss/www_uss.nsf/vw-dynamic-index/3FFD7D3840B92673802573440043E2E5?Opendocument

According to the American Atheists, donating to the Salvation Army, an organization well-equipped and very experienced in dealing with natural disasters, is discouraged. It seems that an atheistic worldview is more important than supporting an organization that specializes in getting aid to people in the most efficient and timely manner.

Sure, there are plenty of secular organizations to contribute to, like the Red Cross, and American Atheists recommends them. The atheists/humanists will be quick to remind us that Clara Barton was “Deist-Unitarian”…but she wasn’t an atheist, was she?

When people are in urgent need, all the best groups for dealing with those needs should be supported, regardless of whether or not they are religiously-based. The best are the best, period, and in an emergency, that’s all that matters.

However, this concept doesn’t fit with the mindset of those “compassionate” American Atheists and their militant atheist counterparts.

"We're getting reports of how some religion-based 'aid' groups are trying to fly evangelists into the stricken areas and how U.S. Army Chaplains are carrying Bibles -- not food or water -- to "comfort" people at the New Orleans Superdome," said Ellen Johnson, President of American Atheists. "People need material aid, medical care and economic support -- not prayers and preaching."

And what makes Ms. Johnson the expert on people’s “needs”? I’d bet 20 bucks that Ellen Johnson wouldn’t make a peep if some secular-based group flew “grief counselors” into the disaster area to help people settle down and cope with their lives.

Johnson also said that Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and President George Bush "should not be violating the Constitution by telling people to pray for the victims of Hurricane Katrina."
"It's unconstitutional for government officials to be promoting religion; and besides, judging from the speed of some relief efforts, officials should be busy working instead of preaching."

Once again, Ellen Johnson pontificates on her interpretation of the Constitution, even though every President has freely expressed his religious views and has even encouraged the public to enjoy their religious privileges granted to them by the Constitution. Do you think American Atheists could be a bit magnanimous and tolerant if people are helped, one way or another? As soon as pigs can fly!

Dave Silverman, Communications Director for American Atheists, compared Hurricane Katrina to January's Asian tsunami which claimed thousands of lives. "It appears that despite all of the outbursts of public religiosity and prayer, 'God' was once again asleep at the wheel."

Thanks for the condescension, Mr. Silverman, I’m sure that was really helpful and elevated the discussion on where to get the best and fastest relief to those disaster victims.

"Only human beings can deal with the calamities of the natural world," said Silverman. "God doesn't seem to be much help when it comes to rushing food, water, or antibiotics when people are suffering."

The Lord God is the inspiration behind the founding of the Salvation Army, one of those organizations American Atheists refuses to support, despite their excellent history of service to humanity for over a century.

Ms. Johnson said that her group is spreading the word to encourage Atheists to contribute money to relief organizations that do not proselytize as part of their rescue efforts.

...Even when those secular-based organizations don’t do as good a job as their religiously-founded counterparts.

That’s real smart.

Atheists Live in a Circular Environment

Here’s the result of an atheism survey, as answered by Pedro Timoteo, operator of wayofthemind.org. It provides another interesting look into the atheist mindset.

My comments follow in bold type.

Without further ado…

Why do you not believe in God?

For exactly the same reason that you don’t believe in every other god than yours.

Hmmm, I seem to recall Mr. Timoteo claiming in his “16 Common Myths About Atheism” that religious believers were “brainwashed”. Is he now admitting that he’s brainwashed, too?

Where do your morals come from?

Empathy, mostly. And reason, and a sense of fairness and justice.

Yeah, but WHERE do those values originate? How about answering the question?

What is the meaning of life?

I could tell you mine, but I can’t tell you yours, or anybody else’s. What, you believe it should be dictated to us by some outside source?

Nice non-answer. Bad dodge.

Is atheism a religion?

No. Incidentally, that question implies that having a religion is something universal, even if it’s “atheism”. That is wrong; it’s like saying everyone has a car, even if yours is “feet”.

I’d like to know where the question implies that “having a religion is something universal.” Thanks for the circular answer. A simple yes or no would have sufficed.

If you don’t pray, what do you do during troubling times?

Depends on the kind of trouble. If I can do something about it, I do it. If not, I deal with it in many different ways, which tend to include friends, family, getting slightly drunk, and listening to heavy metal music. Not all at the same time, of course.

It’s interesting that that an atheist considers religion some kind of crutch, but drinking isn’t.

Should atheists be trying to convince others to stop believing in God?

Yes, in the same way we’d try to convince an alcoholic or drug addict to do something about their addiction.

So religion is some kind of addiction akin to drug and alcohol abuse, but I’d venture to guess that Mr. Timoteo’s use of alcohol to “cope” isn’t considered abuse, is it?

Weren’t some of the worst atrocities in the 20th century committed by atheists?

Hitler and Stalin had moustaches. So, having a moustache makes you a mass murderer! What, you’re saying that their moustaches didn’t inspire their actions? Neither did Stalin’s atheism (Hitler was a Catholic). The Inquisition, on the other hand, was caused by what, exactly…?

What a dumb analogy. The answer is, YES.

Now Mr. Timoteo claims to be able to get into the mind of Josef Stalin and assure us that his atheism didn’t have any bearing on his personal decisions? And we’re also expected to believe that same old tired claim that Hitler was a Christian, when anybody with half a brain knows that Hitler’s belief system was bogus and used to manipulate and control people.

How could billions of people be wrong when it comes to belief in God?

See: flat earth, geocentrism, demonic posession as an explanation for diseases, slavery, and many other times when billions of people were wrong.

Hello... most of those beliefs were not from Christianity. And the belief in geocentrism didn’t invalidate the writings of the Greek philosophers, did it?

Science has been proven wrong numerous times, but we don’t dump it for that reason. It’s called throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Why does the universe exist?

“Why” is the wrong question. “How” would be better. How, exactly? I don’t know, it’s not my field of expertise, sorry. But I don’t take the easy way out and say “Goddidit.”

But that lack of expertise doesn’t prevent Mr. Timoteo from pontificating, does it? Why does saying "goddidit" make it “the easy way out”, and why does that make the idea of God null and void?

How did life originate?

Again, I’m not a biologist, but I don’t see the need for a supernatural cause there.

Based on what? If he's not a biologist, does that just mean your his beliefs against God are based on personal prejudice alone?

Is all religion harmful?

Yes, because even the most “harmless” ones teach you to replace critical thinking and skepticism with wishful thinking.

Aren’t Darwinists also guilty of “wishful thinking”?

This is hilarious. Mr. Timoteo subscribes to one of the most bogus Urban Legends atheists cite against Christians: that Christians are incapable of critical thought or skepticism. I was just wondering then, if that’s true, why don’t Christians over the age of 5 believe in Santa Claus, and why haven’t Christians swallowed the whole Darwin thing hook, line, and sinker? Oh, that’s right… Christians are “brainwashed”!

So, back to the question: how does this belief of yours prove that religion is “harmful”, Mr. Timoteo?

What’s so bad about religious moderates?

They believe that any religious creed is above criticism, simply because it is a religious creed. So, they protect extremists, and prevent rational discussion of religion.

Excuse me, Mr. Timoteo, I think you just described what is known as dogmatism. Dogmatism is what extremists preach, not moderates. Your statement is incorrect.

Is there anything redeeming about religion?

People may feel better when, after a catastrophe, they somehow still feel that “someone above cares”. But that’s wishful thinking again… and it often keeps them from actually doing something about it. So, no.

Now that is an interesting portrait about the atheist, because Christopher Hitchens wasn’t able to answer a similar question any more honestly than Pedro Timoteo. The correct answer is: yes.

Religion has many redeeming qualities, whether or not you’re a believer. To say otherwise is a lie.

What if you’re wrong about God (and He does exist)?

Which one? And what if you believe in the wrong one? Anyway, I believe a good god would prefer a decent unbeliever to a vicious believer… and, as for an evil god, only a coward would ever serve him.

Another non-answer and a poor attempt to dodge the question.

Shouldn’t all religious beliefs be respected?

No. Something is either true, or it isn’t. Why such a fear of reality?

Then why should we respect atheism? Simply because atheists claim their beliefs are true?

Are atheists smarter than theists?

Technically, no, but statistically they probably are. For instance, the percentage of atheists among scientists is much greater than among the general populace.

The answer is, statistics suggest smarter people tend to be non-religious. There was a survey done in 1996 to see how many eminent scientists in the National Academy of the Sciences believed in God or an afterlife, and the results, when compared to a similar survey taken 80 years before, revealed that about 1/3 of scientists that are in the NAS have a strong belief in God or an afterlife. Another 15% are agnostic. About 40% are atheistic.

Also, a survey of belief based on IQ revealed that people with higher IQ’s had a greater tendency to be non-religious. The differences though, are more profound among people that have very high IQ’s, which is a very small part of the population.

But does that mean atheists and agnostics are smarter than believers? The studies don’t say anything about the respondents’ upbringing, which has a lot to do with shaping a person’s beliefs.

Also, keep in mind that most pastors are college educated. Pastors in medium to large churches often hold a Masters or a Doctorate.

The jury is still out on the intelligence argument.

Here are 2 links that deal with the intelligence issue:

http://www.doxa.ws/other/smarter2.html
http://www.stephenjaygould.org/ctrl/news/file002.html#394313A0r003

How do you deal with the historical Jesus if you don’t believe in his divinity?

If he existed — which isn’t certain — I’m almost sure that it was Paul, not Jesus, who invented the “he died for your sins; accept him as your savior and be saved” thing. In other words: the information we have about the historical Jesus is far from reliable.

The accounts of Jesus are as historically reliable as any other ancient texts. In the opinions of many historians, the accounts of Jesus are more reliable than other ancient historical sources because they can be dated so closely to the time of the original events. Mr. Timoteo doesn’t understand much about ancient history, either.

Perhaps Mr. Timoteo needs to review his Biblical history a bit more. What the Apostle Paul was quoting was what He was taught by Peter and the other Apostles, whom he had contact with. Oops, I forgot, the Bible isn’t a reliable source of history. My bad.

Would the world be better off without any religion?

Oh, yes. Without religion in the middle ages, we would be at Star Trek-like levels today — not just in terms of technology, but of society. Religion is the thing that’s holding humanity back the most, and always has been.

Golly Gee Willikers, Mr. Wizard, just think of how neat-o the world would be if those nasty old religious guys hadn’t slowed down human development! We’d be living on Mars right now!

This is another ignorant belief of the average atheist: that Christians have slowed down human progress (although they really can’t back up their claims with anything resembling facts).

The truth is, clerics from both the Church and from the Islamic faith were the preservers and protectors of the ancient works of Greek and Roman historians, philosophers, mathematicians, scientists, and engineers. Very little of what we know about ancient history has managed to survive to this day. Without the help of both Christianity and Islam, we’d have next to nothing.

Also, there is no doubt that Christianity was absolutely vital in the development of western civilization and culture, the most technologically advanced culture in the world for most of the last 600 years.

What happens when we die?

It’s over for us, but we can leave memories and deeds, and can have made the world a better place for our children and their children.

That’s the first intellectually honest answer by Mr. Timoteo in the whole questionnaire. Real atheists don’t believe in an afterlife. But they sure do believe all other kinds of funny stuff!

Pedro Timotheo puts in his 2 cents worth by adding:

Now, I’d add a few ones:

Isn’t atheism just hatred of God?

Do you hate Thor? Or just don’t believe he exists or ever existed? Well, it’s the same thing here.
No, it’s not. Atheists love to mock the names of God and Jesus because they know it upsets religious believers. They also bash the teachings of the Bible by referring to God as “evil”. On top of that, they engage in all forms of blasphemy in their attacks against Christians. Whether they care to admit it or not, they do hate God, or at least the idea of a god, and it shows in what they post on the internet.

How can you be sure God doesn’t exist, if you’re not all-knowing?

I’m as much sure God doesn’t exist as I am about unicorns or werewolves, and for the same reason: there’s exactly zero evidence for all of them.

This is the ultimate expression of atheist intellectual dishonesty. There IS evidence for God, but atheists don’t accept it. That evidence is based on historical testimony and observations of nature and the Universe. Mr. Timoteo might want to read about Anthony Flew's change of heart (and YES, we know he's a non-religious "deist"... but there's still hope!).

An intellectually honest atheist says, “I’m not convinced that God exists, based on the evidence I’ve seen so far”, but to say that “There is no evidence” is nothing more than a prejudiced assumption.

Atheism, as exemplified by Pedro Timoteo, is presumptive, condescending, and intellectually dishonest. It’s no wonder that in a university opinion poll, people find atheists less trustworthy than religious believers.

Guess What "Rational" Non-Believers Believe?

This is a typical post from a garden-variety atheist, taken from Craigslist Rants and Raves. My comments follow each section.

“Then there is a god. Just not the one you're worshipping.
The fruits of the last 100 years are advances in medicine and science,
longer life spans, healthier lives and lifestyles, more acknowledgment
of civil rights for women (that'd include you, honey) and
minorities....... NONE of which are attributable to Christians.”

This is funny. Many atheists actually believe that Christians and other religious believers are opposed to any kind of scientific advancement, and therefore, no Christian is credited for anything that might have improved our lives in the last 100 years.

I guess many of these people slept through High School History, because they never heard of:

Edward Jenner, the most famous champion of vaccination, who did his work against fierce opposition and in the teeth of threats against himself. In effect he wiped out smallpox from among the diseases that terrify mankind.

Crawford Long, one of the three Americans who discovered anesthesia. James Young Simpson, who championed its use in Britain was also a professing Christian, an ardent New Presbyterian.

Joseph Lister, the Quaker doctor who first championed antiseptic surgery against tremendous opposition. Antiseptic surgery was based directly on the theories of Louis Pasteur. And what of Pasteur? Although not a churchgoer, he was a Franciscan Tertiary and detested atheists and atheism. He proved the impossibility of the spontaneous generation of life.

Georges Lemaitre, a Belgian priest (who proved the Big Bang Theory), PREDICTED from his reworking of Einstein's theories, that space would be found to be expanding. Einstein himself at first resisted the implications but later applauded them. The expansion of space was soon confirmed.

Robert Boyle, who is called by some the Father of Chemistry. His science sprang directly from his faith.

John Dalton, a Quaker, gave us the atomic theory behind chemistry.

Sir Humphrey Davy claimed faith and is noted for his chemical researches.

Michael Faraday, who first liquified chlorine.

Sir William Ramsay, The isolater of inert gases, also was a man of Christian faith.

Sir William Wilberforce, the deeply religious member of Parliament who led the abolitionist movement in England.

President Abraham Lincoln, who saw the abolition of slavery in America, and reunited the United States after the Civil War.

Lucretia Mott, the Quaker minister who was one of the early founders of the Women’s Rights Movement in America.

The list of religious believers that have made changes in our lives fills volumes. I chose these people because their work has affected today’s society in very profound ways.

“However, we can attribute the rise of Communism to two Christians --
Stalin and Marx. And we can attribute both of the world wars to
Christians -- Hitler among them.”

I never met an anti-Christian Urban Myth that an internet atheist didn’t like. These are 2 of their favorites.

First of all, does anybody besides this guy really believe that Karl Marx was a believer, when Marx is listed in Wikipedia under the topic of “Famous Atheists”?

The Urban Legend about Stalin is even funnier. Josef Stalin vacillated between atheism and religion, and his religious views were hard to pin down towards the end of his life. Nonetheless, during his early years as head of the Soviet Central Committee he saw to the destruction of the Church in Russia as an institution and the imprisonment and killing of the clergy. It was only later that he changed his mind and allowed the Church to grow once more, possibly for political reasons. Now does he sound like a real Bible-beater to you? Only if you’re an atheist!

The claim of Hitler’s supposed “Christianity” is just as funny as the Stalin legend. Atheists always claim that Hitler was a Roman Catholic, basing their assumption on Hitler’s book, Mein Kampf. What atheists choose to omit is that Mein Kampf was not an autobiography, so much as it was a manual for proselytizing people into Nazism. Hitler’s favorite tool for making converts was propaganda, and Mein Kampf is pure propaganda from cover-to-cover. In actuality, the Third Reich targeted the clergy for elimination the same way the Communists did. If you want to read about how Hitler really felt about the Christians he was duping, get a book called “Hitler’s Table talk”, which contains the transcribed notes taken at meetings between Hitler and his staff.

“So, what have Christians done, besides rape children, start wars,
b**** and moan about the advances in science and medicine that
improved the quality of their lives, and actively rail against the
recognition of civil rights for all? “

You mean, besides NOT doing any of those things the atheist accuses Christians of?

Well, for openers, there’s the Salvation Army, the world’s 2nd largest social welfare and assistance organization, topped only by the United Nations.

Then there’s World Vision International and Christian Children’s Fund, which allow regular joes like you and I to “sponsor” the feeding and education of millions of children, living in desperate poverty all over the world.

Christians run the biggest skid row rescue missions in the country.

And, as I mentioned before, Christians are actively involved in all areas of academia, science, engineering and government. In other words, as hard as it is for a militant atheist to believe, Christians are real people too.

"Oh, that's right -- Christianity has given us Jim Bakker, Jerry
Falwell, Oral Roberts, Bob Jones, the KKK, Christian Identity, the
Boer Wars, neo-Nazis, resistance to every advancement in medicine from
birth control to antibiotics, continuing hatred of anyone different,
etc. "

And atheism has given us Frederick Nietzche.

Even though he’s quoted quite regularly by the atheist crowd, Nietzche is not found in too many lists of “Famous Atheists”. Guess why?

Nietzche contracted syphilis in his 20’s and spent much of his life slipping in and out periods of dementia as a result of his disease. He was also a practicing homosexual who hated women so much, he remarked that the best way to approach a woman was with a whip in hand. Because Nietzche wasn’t able to make a decent living, he sponged off of his mother. Nietzche spent his last days a raving lunatic from advanced syphilis, and only then did people get interested in buying his books, because they were interested in the writings of the “crazy philosopher”.

This is the real story of the “great man” who pronounced God “dead”.

Personally, I wouldn’t want the man on my “who’s who” list, either, because I wouldn’t want anybody to know I’m quoting philosophy from a man who was certified as insane.

Don’t you just love the way atheists spew their favorite “rogues gallery” of Christian hate targets, while choosing to ignore the overwhelmingly positive contributions of visionaries like William Booth or Mother Theresa? And just where are the atheist or humanist equivalents of these well-known Christians? I’m sure there are plenty of humanist heroes, and just as many humanist villains, like Nietzche and Pol Pot. It’s time for the atheist crowd to accept the fact that they’re a minority and most likely they will always be, instead of constantly lashing out at Christians and trying to convince the world that Christians are the overwhelming source of all the world’s evils.
